Czech Government Scholarships for International Students

             

Scholarship Overview:

• The Government of the Czech Republic annually offers scholarships within its Foreign Development Assistance Program. These so called government scholarships support students from developing countries who would like to study at public universities in the Czech Republic.
  

Scholarship Description:

• Granting scholarships to citizens from developing countries for studies at Czech public higher education institutions (referred to as “universities”) is an important part of the foreign development cooperation of the Czech Republic and has a long tradition.

From the late 1950s to the present day over 21,500 foreign nationals have completed their studies at Czech universities with a scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic.

Scholarship Duration:

• These Government Scholarships are designed to cover the standard length of study: 
• 1) in Bachelor/Master/Doctoral study programs plus one-year preparatory course of the Czech language (which is combined with other field-specific training). Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from upper secondary schools, or Bachelor's/Master's degree courses, as applicable, who can enroll only in study programs in which instruction is given in the Czech language. Depending on the subject area, applicants are normally required to sit entrance examinations at the higher education institution concerned. Successful passing of entrance examinations constitutes a precondition for the scholarship award;
• or  
• 2) in follow-up Master study programs or Doctoral study programs. Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates of Bachelor or Master study programs, respectively, who enroll in study programs with instruction in the English language.

• What does the scholarship cover?

• The scholarship covers the necessary costs related to staying and studying in the Czech Republic.The scholarship amount is regularly amended. Currently the amount paid to students on a Bachelor’s, Master’s or follow-up Master’s study program stands at CZK 14,000 per month, whereas the amount paid to students of a Doctoral study program stands at CZK 15,000 per month.The above scholarship amount includes an amount designated for the payment of accommodation costs.Costs of accommodation, food and public transport are covered by scholarship holders from the scholarship under the same conditions that apply to students who are citizens of the Czech Republic. Should health services exceeding standard care be required by the student, s/he shall cover them at his/her own cost.

• The 2018/2019 application system will open on 20 July 2017 and the deadline to fill in an electronic application form will be 30 September. 

Application and Eligibility?

Applicants for a scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic shall submit the documentation in two counterparts (i.e. two separate identical files).
Only complete documentation that meets the requirements stated in this Chapter shall be considered. Documentation that does not meet the requirements shall be officially returned without any further reasoning.
In order for an applicant to be admitted to study at a university, his/her documents proving foreign educational attainment must be recognized in the Czech Republic. It is advisable that when traveling to the Czech Republic, students should have at least two extra counterparts of the documents necessary for the admission procedure and for the recognition of foreign educational attainment with them. It is also recommended that students who shall pursue their studies at a university without the one-yearlong language and preparatory studies have their education recognized prior to their arrival in the Czech Republic. The actual procedure is published on the university website.
If it is not possible to have documents translated into the Czech language pursuant to the requirements specified hereinafter in the country that nominates the applicant for the studies, applicants may enclose legalised translations by a sworn translator/interpreter into the English language.

Application Form

All applicants shall fill in the electronic application form available on the website stated in Chapter 2 and successfully register (i.e. obtain an application identification number upon sending a completed application form to the pertinent authority electronically).
Nominated applicants shall also submit a printed “Application Form for a Scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic”, which has to meet the requirements stated below:

•  It shall be filled in using the Roman alphabet, if possible in English or in Czech; 
•  The assigned application identification number shall be stated in the upper right corner;  A photo (45 mm x 35 mm) shall be printed or glued in the designated place; 
• All boxes shall be completely and truthfully filled in pursuant to the instructions for each box; 
•  The applicant shall pay special attention to the content of a box entitled “Motivational Letter” in which s/he shall briefly describe his/her expectations in terms of future studies, the practical application of the learning and the benefit for the country that has nominated him/her; 
•  A printed copy of the application form shall be signed by the applicant in his/her own hand. 

Documents Submitted by Applicants for a Bachelor’s and Master’s Study Program Pursued in the Czech Language

Applicants for a Bachelor’s and Master’s study program pursued in the Czech language shall submit the following documents in two counterparts through the pertinent Embassy (upon request): 

•  Application Form for a Scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic (“Application Form”) that meets the requirements stated in above;
•  CV with a focus on studies and employment; 
• Photocopy of his/her passport, if issued;
• Declaration about the Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Granting of Scholarships of the Government of the Czech Republic (signed in his/her own hand!); 
•  Declaration about the Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Provision of Health Services (signed in his/her own hand!); 
• Affirmation on Return to the Sending Country upon Completion of Studies (signed in his/her own hand!);
• Legalized copy of his/her birth certificate with a legalized translation into the Czech language;
• Medical confirmation about the applicant’s health no more than two months old, with a legalized translation into English or into Czech (a template of the form is given in Annex); 
•  Legalized copy of a foreign certificate (i.e. proof of completed secondary education) with a legalized translation into the Czech language by a sworn translator/interpreter entered in the list of experts and interpreters in the Czech Republic; 
• Document proving the content and scope of education completed at a foreign school (i.e. a list of subjects studied in individual years at a secondary school, duration and/or confirmation of the scope of vocational education) with a legalized translation into the Czech language by a sworn translator/interpreter entered in the list of experts and interpreters in the Czech Republic;
• Document proving that the school is recognized by the state pursuant to whose legal order the foreign certificate has been issued and that it belongs to its system of education, if this fact is not clear from the foreign certificate, with a legalized translation into the Czech language by a sworn translator/interpreter entered in the list of experts and interpreters in the Czech Republic;
• Document proving that the foreign certificate entitles the student to pursue university studies in a given foreign country. 

Applicants for a Bachelor’s and a Master’s study program pursued in the Czech language who have a command of Czech and thus do not wish to undertake the one-year-long language and preparatory studies and who may prove their Czech language knowledge by means of an official document (attestation, certificate or confirmation) shall be registered as substitutes. These applicants shall fill in the electronic application form and shall complete the admission procedure themselves on the dates stipulated by the given university in the Czech Republic. If these applicants present a certificate of enrollment for studies in the Czech language at a university in the given academic year before the given academic year commences or at the latest at its commencement, they may be granted a scholarship from a pool of unused scholarships offered by the Government of the Czech Republic for the given academic year. 

If it is not possible to have documents translated into Czech in the country that nominates the applicant pursuant to requirements specified in this Chapter below, applicants may enclose legalized translations into the English language. 

Documents Submitted by Applicants for a Master’s Study Program Pursued in the English Language

Applicants for a follow-up Master’s study program pursued in the English language shall submit the following documents in two counterparts through the pertinent Embassy (upon request): 

• Application Form for a Scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic (“Application Form”) that meets the requirements stated above; 
• CV with a focus on studies and employment; 
• Photocopy of his/her passport, if issued; 
• Declaration about the Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Granting of Scholarships of the Government of the Czech Republic (signed in his/her own hand!);
• Declaration about the Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Provision of Health Services (signed in his/her own hand!); 
• Affirmation on Return to the Sending Country upon Completion of Studies (signed in his/her own hand!); 
• Legalized copy of his/her birth certificate with a legalized translation into the Czech language; 8. Medical confirmation about the applicant’s health no more than two months old with a legalized translation into English or into Czech (a template of the form is given in Annex)
• Legalized copy of a foreign diploma, certificate or similar document proving due completion of a Bachelor’s study program with a legalized translation into the Czech language by a sworn translator/interpreter entered in the list of experts and interpreters in the Czech Republic; 
• Legalized copy of a Supplement to Diploma or list of completed lectures and examinations including their scope and grades (marks) achieved with a legalized translation into the Czech language; 
• Additional information proving that the study program was provided by an institution entitled to provide university education, with a legalized translation into the Czech language by a sworn translator/interpreter entered in the list of experts and interpreters in the Czech Republic;
• Additional information about the content of foreign university education; If it is not possible to have documents translated into Czech in the country that nominates the applicant pursuant to requirements specified in this Chapter below, applicants may enclose legalized translations into the English language. 

Documents Submitted by Applicants for a Doctoral Study Programme Pursued in the English Language: 

Applicants for a Doctoral study program pursued in the English language shall submit the following documents in two counterparts through the pertinent Embassy (upon request): 

• Application Form for a Scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic (“Application Form”) that meets the requirements stated above;  
• CV with a focus on studies and employment;
• Photocopy of his/her passport, if issued;
• Declaration about the Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Granting of Scholarships of the Government of the Czech Republic (signed in his/her own hand!);
• Declaration about the Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Provision of Health Services (signed in his/her own hand!); 
• Affirmation on Return to the Sending Country upon Completion of Studies (signed in his/her own hand!); 
• Legalized copy of his/her birth certificate with a legalized translation into the Czech language;
• Medical confirmation about the applicant’s health no more than two months old with a legalized translation into English or into Czech (a template of the form is given in Annex);
• Legalized copy of a foreign diploma, certificate or similar document proving due completion of a Bachelor’s study program with a legalized translation into the Czech language;

• Overview of expert topics on which the applicant wishes to focus in the Doctoral study program; 
• Ideas about the focus of the dissertation thesis (3 to 5 pages long);
• Two letters of recommendation by professors teaching at an academic institution; 
• If applicable, other documents proving the applicant’s qualifications advancement and scholarly/scientific activity to date. If it is not possible to have documents translated into Czech in the country that nominates the applicant pursuant to requirements specified in this Chapter below, applicants may enclose legalized translations into the English language. 

Documents Submitted by Applicants Who Are Regular Students of an Accredited Study Program at a University in the Czech Republic at the Time Designated as the Deadline for the Submission of Scholarship Application Forms 

Applicants who are regular students at an accredited study program at a university in the Czech Republic at the time designated as the deadline for the submission of application forms shall submit Page 10 of 26 the following documents in two counterparts through the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: 

• Application Form for a Scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic (“Application Form”) that meets the requirements stated above; 
• CV (information about studies, employment); 
• Photocopy of their passport;
•  Declaration about the Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Granting of Scholarships of the Government of the Czech Republic (signed in his/her own hand!);
• Declaration about the Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Provision of Health Services (signed in his/her own hand!); 
• Affirmation on Return to the Sending Country upon Completion of Studies (signed in his/her own hand!);
• Medical confirmation about the applicant’s health no more than two months old with a legalized translation into English or into Czech unless it is issued in the Czech language (a template of the form is given in Anne); and furthermore: 
• Study confirmation issued by the pertinent university where they currently study; 
•  Document stating all the results of his/her studies to date; Applicants for a Doctoral study program scholarship shall also submit the following:
• Overview of expert topics on which the applicant wishes to focus in the Doctoral study program; 
• Letter of recommendation by a thesis supervisor/professor at the university where the Doctoral study program is/will be taking place or a letter of acceptance (i.e. preliminary confirmation of admission) issued by a university in the Czech Republic that shall admit the applicant as a holder of a scholarship from the Government of the Czech Republic; 
• If applicable, other documents proving the applicant’s qualifications advancement and scholarly/scientific activity to date. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cannot accept applications from applicants who are in the territory of the Czech Republic at the time designated as the deadline for the submission of application forms for a scholarship of the Government of the Czech Republic but who are currently only preparing themselves for their studies at a university (i.e. who are not students of a university in the Czech Republic as yet).

Hiram College – Scholarship for International Students

Although Hiram College does not offer need-based aid to international students, there is a generous program of merit-based global scholarships. These scholarships range from $1,000 to $18,000 per year and are renewable annually for up to four years of study. To be considered, you must have your completed application for admission into the Admission Office not later than February 1. There is no separate scholarship application. The files of all students admitted to the College will receive scholarship consideration. Both the Admission and Scholarship Committees evaluate each student’s application file in its entirety. This holistic review includes academic preparation and performance, standardized test scores, teacher recommendations, personal essay and interview, with the strongest emphasis placed on academic performance. Scholarship recipients are notified by February 15.

Maryville College – International Scholarships

             

Maryville College has a strong scholarship program for international students and all admitted degree-seeking international students receive a scholarship. You will automatically be considered for the highest possible amount. All scholarship funds are credited toward tuition payments.  Your scholarship is automatically renewed for up to four academic years (8 fall/spring semesters), provided that you maintain a satisfactory GPA, act as a cultural ambassador on campus, and reside on campus. 

There is no financial aid to cover living costs, fees, books, and miscellaneous expenses.  For visa purposes, most students need to show approximately $22,000 - $30,000 in available financial support for the first year of their studies.

Scholarships are based on academic performance and potential, as determined by school records and/or test scores.

International Diversity Scholarship Awarded to entering international students who have a demonstrated record of academic achievement,  demonstrated international leadership in the past, have a clear plan for contributing to the international community on campus and can show financial need.  Application and phone/skype interview required Financial value: Full-Tuition Scholarship.  Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study with a 3.0 GPA and leadership participation.  Must live on-campus.  See application below.

International Dean's Scholarship Awarded to entering international students with a 3.4 - 3.6 GPA. Financial value: $22,000 each year for residential students.  $18,000 for commuters.

International MC Scholarship Awarded to entering international students with a 3.0 - 3.3 GPA. Financial value: $21,000 each year for residential students.  $17,000 for commuters.

International MC Scots Scholarship Awarded to entering international students with a 2.7 - 2.9 GPA. Financial value: $19,000 each year for residential students.  $16,000 for commuters.

Miami University International Student Scholarships

                  

Miami's International Student Scholarship program provides renewable merit-based scholarships for outstanding international applicants. International Student Scholarship awards can vary from $2,000 to $16,000 per year. Award amounts are determined by academic records, test scores, and other factors received by Miami University at the time of application.

In addition to the International Student Scholarships, all international students with equivalent U.S. grade point averages of 3.50 (or equivalent) or higher and SAT scores of 1280 or ACT scores of 27 or higher are also considered for merit-based scholarships. These additional scholarships can range from $500 per year to full tuition per year. Merit scholarship amounts are determined by the academic records, test scores, and other factors received by Miami University at the time of application.

Over 30 percent of the fall 2016 international first-year students who were admitted to Miami University were also offered a scholarship. All students who complete applications for admission are automatically considered for the scholarships listed above. No separate application is required.

Marshall Scholarships for American students

Eligibility

• Open only to United States citizens who (at the time they take up their Scholarship) hold a first degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States with a minimum GPA of 3.7. To qualify for awards tenable from October 2018, candidates must have graduated from their undergraduate college or university after April 2015.

NB: Persons already studying for or holding a British degree or degree-equivalent qualification are not eligible to apply for a Marshall Scholarship.

Scholarship Duration:

The Two Year Marshall Scholarship is tenable for two academic years (ie 22 months), but may be extended by the Commission, though not beyond the end of a third academic year. Third-year extensions are granted by the Commission on a limited basis, for strong academic reasons, subject to the availability of funds. In addition, thanks to the generous support of the following Universities:

• Up to three third-year extensions may be granted by the University of Oxford to those pursuing a doctorate at Oxford.
• The One Year Marshall Scholarship is tenable for one academic year (ie 12 months) and cannot be extended.

Vous devez confirmer que vous et l'établissement qui propose votre candidature satisfaites à tous les critères énoncés ci-dessous avant de présenter une demande de bourse d'études supérieures du Canada Vanier (BESC Vanier).

Les candidatures qui ne satisfont pas à tous les critères d'admissibilité seront rejetées.

Pour être admissible à une BESC Vanier, il faut que :

• votre candidature ait été présentée par un seul établissement canadien doté d’un quota d’attribution de BESC Vanier;
• vous entrepreniez votre premier programme de doctorat (ce qui comprend les programmes de recherche combinés de premier cycle et d’études de doctorat, tels que M.D.‑Ph.D., D.M.V.-Ph.D. et J.D.-Ph.D., s’ils ont une composante de recherche importante et manifeste). Veuillez noter que seule la portion Ph.D. d’un programme combiné est admissible au financement;
• vous ayez l’intention d’effectuer, au cours de la session d’été ou de l’année universitaire suivant l’annonce des résultats, des études supérieures et de la recherche à temps plein au niveau du doctorat (ou dans le cadre d’un programme combiné, tel que M.D.‑Ph.D., D.M.V.-Ph.D. et J.D.-Ph.D.) au sein de l’établissement ayant présenté votre candidature. Date limite interne de l'établissement : Après qu'un étudiant a choisi dans RechercheNet l'établissement auquel il désire poursuivre ses études de doctorat (voir tâche 10), une date s'affichera au haut de chaque page. Il s'agit de la date limite à laquelle sa demande doit être soumise à l'établissement au moyen de RechercheNet. Cette date est fixée par chaque établissement. Vous ne pourrez soumettre votre demande après la date et l'heure indiquées.

Date limite de participation au programme : Les établissements doivent soumettre les candidatures sélectionnées au Programme de BESC Vanier au plus tard le 1er novembre 2017 (20 h, heure de l'Est).

Comment Postuler?

Avant de remplir une demande, les candidats sont priés de lire les instructions attentivement. Le comité de sélection des bourses d’études supérieures du Canada Vanier est un comité multidisciplinaire. Les demandes qui lui sont soumises sont destinées à des non-spécialistes, et la rédaction doit se faire en conséquence.

Les documents des demandes individuelles peuvent être soumis en français ou en anglais. Il incombe au candidat de s'assurer que sa demande est complète, et qu'elle contient les évaluations des répondants.

Canadian Government Graduate Scholarship for International Students

                                 

Scholarship Overview:

• The Government of Canada launched the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program in 2008 to strengthen Canada's ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. Vanier Scholars demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and/or humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering and health.

Application Timeline:

• July – November Applicants seek a nominating institution, prepare and submit application package.

• November 1, 2017 (20:00 ET) Deadline for institutions to submit nominations to the Vanier CGS program.
• November 2017 – March 2018 Review and evaluation of nominations.
• End of March 2018 Anticipated announcement of results.Nominees will be notified by email when the results are available on ResearchNet.
• May 1, 2018, September 1, 2018 or January 1, 2019 Payments begin.

Eligibility

Confirm that you and your nominating institution meet all the criteria below before you apply for a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS).
Nominations that do not meet all of the eligibility criteria will not be accepted.

Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens are eligible to be nominated for a Vanier CGS.

To be considered for a Vanier CGS, you must:

• be nominated by only one Canadian institution, which must have received a Vanier CGS quota;
• be pursuing your first doctoral degree (including joint undergraduate/graduate research program such as: MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD - if it has a demonstrated and significant research component). Note that only the PhD portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding;
• intend to pursue, in the summer semester or the academic year following the announcement of results, full-time doctoral (or a joint graduate program such as: MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD) studies and research at the nominating institution; Note that only the PhD portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding;
• not have completed more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2018 (see calculating months of doctoral studies below);
• have achieved a first-class average, as determined by your institution, in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent. Candidates are encouraged to contact the institution for its definition of a first-class average; and
• must not hold, or have held, a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC to undertake or complete a doctoral degree.

Application Closing date: 

There are two deadlines pertaining to the 2017-2018 competition:

• Institution internal deadline: Following the student's identification in ResearchNet of the institution proposed for doctoral study (see Task 10), an additional deadline date and time will appear at the top of each page. This is the deadline by which your application must be submitted to the institution through ResearchNet. This deadline is set and controlled by each institution. You will not be able to submit your application past this precise date and time.
• Program deadline: Institutions must forward their selected nominations to the Vanier CGS program by November 1, 2017 (20:00 Eastern Time).

How can I Apply?

Before beginning an application please read the Application instructions carefully. The Vanier CGS agency-specific selection committees are multidisciplinary; applications should be written with a non-specialist research audience in mind.

Individual application documents can be submitted in either English or French.


It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the application is complete, including referee assessments.

1. In ResearchNet, complete all tasks listed for the Vanier CGS application.
2. Preview the Full Application Package version of your application in ResearchNet, using the "Preview Application Materials" task, to ensure that your application is complete. Note: What you see previewed is exactly how your application will look when submitted electronically to the Canadian nominating institution and to the Vanier CGS program.
3. Print the entire application.
4. Save the PDF version of the entire, completed application.
5. Submit the completed electronic application through ResearchNet by completing the "Consent and Submit Application" task. Note: The nominating institution cannot accept your application until you complete this task.
